In-Roam started off as a role-playing game I designed. It was a setting developed to let anything happen, and the character who best seemed to fit this was Hudson Stiles. He was a loose cannon from another game I'd played with his creator, and he was the perfect badass to throw into the mixed-up worlds of In-Roam. From the beginning, it was an interesting setup that the main character's creator and I had. I would design the story and write the chapters true to my universe, but he would keep me true to his vision of his character. We spent a good deal of time agonizing over what foul language Stiles would or would not say and what kind of acts he would or would not perform, even for the sake of the story. It was an engrossing, but fun process. UPDATE: The first chapter of the sequel is up! I'm redoing the layout to make it a bit sharper inside, utilizing the co-author more this time, and bringing to you a story with more violence, more swearing, more laughs, and more crude behavior.
Stiles is a survivor, and he'll need every bit of his survival skills when he's thrown into a strange new universe with hundreds of worlds linked with hidden portals. His only guide is a strange device attached to his arm, and he has no idea who put it there or why. After a little traveling though, he finds a couple more humans, and takes up the trail with them. He travels from world to world with his companions to find a lot of answers, and to hand out a few beat-downs. The universe is a lot more complex than he initially thought though, and he spends most of his time trying to get answers that no one else seemed to bother with. As he pieces things together, it becomes increasingly clear that he'll have to press on to the world at the center of everything, but it's not going to be easy, or unguarded.
When Stiles stumbles across a kid that thinks this whole thing is just a game and some nasty types want him the kid dead or joining up with Kameko's old regime the Roamin' Empire, life is going to start getting more difficult. Old grudges are hard to let go, and with the entire universe at stake this time, Stiles is going to have his hands more than full, even if one of them is bionic!
